Platea Madrid is really difficult to define. It is neither a market nor a restaurant. It is the place to be if you want to try the best food in Madrid. Located in the former Carlos III movie-theater and turns into the best gastronomic venue in town, Platea Madrid has open its door in 2014.
The venue counts with 64,500 square feet, displaying the best food on a charming atmosphere created respecting the stately look of the former cinema. The name of the place is also a tribute to the golden years of Hollywood. The amazing decoration of this place is a creation of the talented interior decorator Lázaro Rosa-Violán. He was inspired by the aesthetics of the ’40s and ’50s combining perfectly lights, environments and dining spaces to give each its own identity while achieving aesthetic coherence.

The closes subway station are Serrano and Colón. Also, you can take bus number 21 and 53.
The cinema has been adapted to its new function, creating nine different spaces, each one offering different food, flavors and ingredients. Let’s take a look at it:
Sinergias
The ground floor area has eleven different restaurants, stores and bars. The is a brewery by Estrella Damm, a cocktail bar El Patio, a gourmet store Gold Gourmet, a chef supply store Cooking and a vermouth bar La hora del vermut. In the same level, but in the patio, there are five restaurants in a space –like a food court– called Sinergias. This area is conducted by three of most internationally renowned Spanish chefs: Paco Roncero, Marcos Morán, and Pepe Solla.
Multicultural Basement
The lower level is a tribute to the world’s cuisines. There is a Mexican restaurant Beso de sal, a cocktail bar El foso, a gourmet burger restaurant Entrecortes, an Italian restaurant Fortino, a Peruvian restaurant Kinua and a Japanese sushi bar Shikku. Of course, the Spanish flavors are included in this heterogenic selection with De Cuchara –a restaurant specialize in Spanish soups and stews– and Sabor a Dehesa –a bar with the best selection of Spanish cheese and hams.
Arriba Restaurant
Located in the first floor, Arriba is the biggest and most important restaurant in Platea Madrid. The menu and the food is the creation of two-star Michelin chef Ramón Freixa. In Arriba, you will be enjoying the most exquisite ingredients, prepare with amazing techniques, while looking for the best favors. Arriba has been defined by the Ramón Freixa as “the place where traditional and avant-garde cuisine meet”.
Mamá Framboise
Mamá Framboise is the gorgeous bakery that occupies the platea area with Arriba. The spot is decorated with industrial touches honoring the New York of the twenties. Alejandro Montes is the pastry chef in charges to put a sweet flitch in Platea Madrid. He has been awarded as the Best Young Confectioner of Spain, Best Chocolatier of Spain, and Golden Medal of the Open France du Desserts.
The second floor is occupied by a cocktail bar called El Palco. It great atmosphere and its charming decoration makes it the best city place to meet afterwork. The third floor is the smokers’ area.
